I have had type 1 diabetes for 21 years, I am on an insulin pump, and I am approximately 12 weeks pregnant. I had normal A1cs during my pregnancies, but the pressure to achieve perfect blood sugars with different insulins did more harm than good. By making it seem like this is an achievable goal for pregnant women with type 1 diabetes, aren’t you setting them up to feel totally responsible for any birth defects? Wouldn’t a normal A1c be a more realistic goal?
