Genetics and Heredity

My 15 year old son has type 1 diabetes, diagnosed at age seven, and our 13 year old son has had many days over the last 18 months when he has not been himself. I plan to breastfeed because I’ve heard that can reduce the chances of a child developing diabetes. Will this offset the role of heredity at all? How long should I try to breastfeed?
