My 38 pound daughter takes between 11.5 and 15 units daily. Is she still in her honeymoon? What should I expect when it ends? How will I know when it’s over?

When someone is receiving insulin shots in the honeymoon period, is it really resting their pancreas? Does the pancreas recognize the extra dose of insulin in enough time to prevent a low from occurring?

Many times during the honeymoon period, we believed and hoped he was misdiagnosed. I have often wondered if we had never told him he had diabetes and had not convinced him he had it, if he might have gotten better. Is the honeymoon period the time it takes one to mentally kill off what little cell producing ability one has? Did we convince my son having diabetes?

My 10 year old son was diagnosed about 10 months ago. After returning from a wonderful three week summer camp program, his numbers have spiralled higher and higher, and our team has suggested more and more insulin in response. My four year old is still in the honeymoon phase, and I am just curious about why at a 4 am blood glucose test she is often around 96 mg/dl [5.3 mmol/L], and then at 7 am, she goes up to 120 mg/dl [6.7 mmol/L] or so. Does this mean that her liver is kicking out glucagon? Does this mean that her pancreas is sometimes adjusting the insulin?

My daughter’s (diagnosed seven months ago) doctor said she was in a “heavy” honeymoon and could even come off her insulin, but we decided a little bit will help keep her pancreas from getting too tired. He wants to wait a year to test her for antibodies. Should we get her tested now? If she is negative, does that mean she might have type 2 diabetes?

As her body has started producing insulin by itself now, why is her blood sugar still high? We consulted with the child specialist and he told us that the might be a problem or a complication in her body otherwise it wouldn’t be like this. Can you send me information about the complications like this and any treatments? Is it possible that the diabetes could be removed from her body forever?

My son was diagnosed with type 1, then salmonella. After the salmonella, we reduced his insulin, but he still had lows. Is there any danger in taking him off insulin for a day, closely monitoring him and seeing what happens?
