Medications: Pills for Diabetes

My daughter is 18 and has Type 1 diabetes. She has been noncompliant with this disease. We recently switched her doctor to an adult endocrinologist. He is very unhappy with her A1c which is 12. He wants to put her Avandia to see if her body will react to the insulin better.

He saw a local doctor who put him on metformin blood pressure tablets, cholesterol tablets, and, he is taking a tablet for sinus. His general health is now terrible, constantly ill. I believe with diet and exercise, it is not necessary for him to have medication at this stage, so long as the sugar level is kept under control. I have asked him to go and talk to the Diabetes Centre so that he may be reassured of his state of health. What do you think?
