My friend’s eight year old daughter has precocious puberty and never showed any symptoms of diabetes, but they checked her blood sugar and learned that she does indeed have type 1 diabetes. Are there any studies that examine a correlation between precocious puberty and type 1 diabetes?

My two year old daughter had one high blood sugar reading, but she has not been high since. She is supposed to start preschool, and we were wondering if you think that exposure to so many new children and their illnesses may cause her to develop diabetes more quickly. Is it possible that protecting her from exposure will either prevent or delay the onset of type 1 diabetes?

My son developed type 1 diabetes at the age of 14 months, and three weeks prior to being diagnosed, he had his pancreas stimulated due to his ongoing reflux problems. I read recently about research that was conducted which indicated a higher incidence of type 1 diabetes in homes using well water. We live in the country and have well water at home, and there are two other children (who likely have well water also) in my daughter’s elementary school with type 1 diabetes. Is three out of a population of 450 students unusual?

At least five out of every 10 people I talk to know a child with type 1 diabetes. Why are all of these kids getting this? Is this vaccine related? My daughter was one of the first to get the chicken pox vaccine which I later found out was taken off the market and replaced. I think someone needs to do a study to find out the true numbers of children getting this. This is more than average. Something is going on here.

Our local news said a study has shown that children who are given solid foods before the recommended age of four months are more likely to have type 1 diabetes later on in childhood. My son was given whole milk at 2 months of age and I was wondering if that in some way contributed to his illness.
