My son has attention problems. Could his eight years of high/low blood sugars have contributed to this?

The school’s field hockey coaches have told my daughter she will lose playing time due to the time she spends checking her blood sugars and treating lows during practices. Isn’t this discrimination? What should be my next step?

We have two children in our elementary schools with diabetes who both have labile blood sugar readings which sometimes are well over 450 mg/dl [25 mmol/L]. We call the parents who don’t seem to be alarmed and direct us to give the insulin per the prescribed sliding scale. How should we as school health individuals handle this?

My 14 year old daughter has difficulty controlling her blood sugars so she is often sick, has colds and misses a lot of school which has been quite a big problem. I am not in any financial shape to send her to a private school, but I do have her in therapy for her anger and acceptance issues. Are there any grants issued for children with type 1 diabetes to attend private high schools?

My 11 year old is going on a pump and attends a small Catholic school which does not have a nurse. I have given the office information, but they don’t even read it, and I am concerned if he has a low, they might not call for help. They seem to take his diabetes very lightly. Do we have any rights? Any suggestions?

My granddaughter is going to a new school with new rules, etc., and it seems to be a harder adjustment for her this year. Her teacher embarrassed the child in front of the class, told her parents that one of them needs to be on all field trips, and at this point will not allow her to participate. Does the school my granddaughter attends have the right to demand that one of her parents accompany her on all field trips?
