My 17 year old daughter, diagnosed with diabetes at age four, has recently noticed that her hair has become dry and unhealthy. I took my 14 year old son, who has diabetes, to his enodcrinologist because of an eight pound weight loss. He noticed that my son had sweaty hands, rapid heart beat and another weight loss and told me that my son may have an overactive thyroid. What do we expect if he does have overactive thyroid? Will this affect his blood sugar control? Will my endocrinologist also test for Addison’s Disease, and celiac disease?

Do you think this can be related?

Two months ago, my niece, who has had type 1 diabetes for nearly six years, suddenly, developed hypertension, swelling in feet/legs, general puffiness, weight gain, fatigue, hot flashes, and generally not feeling well (or like herself). She was found to have hypertension and a thyroid condition.
