Insulin Pumps

advertisement
Question from United States:

I put in my site before filling my tubing with insulin. I just continued and started filling my tubing. I realized I had not filled my cartridge with insulin first. What will happen?

Answer:

From: Marissa Town, BSN, RN, CDCES

If you inserted the infusion set before filling the tubing, your blood sugars will probably go high if you were letting the basal run and having air instead of insulin. You should never insert the infusion set first, because if you’re connected when you prime, you will get a large amount of insulin that could be very dangerous. Always try to fill the tubing FIRST, then inserting the infusion set.
