Question from Chicago, Illinois, USA:

A 15 year old, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 18 months, is experiencing high morning fever, dizziness, headache, and occasional vomiting. Blood sugar levels vary at the time of these symptoms. Could these symptoms be diabetes related?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Not in my experience. High blood sugar, ketones and vomiting may be related to diabetes, but fever is not part of diabetes. With fever, I expect some infection. This person needs to be seen by a physician.
