Question from London, Ontario, Canada:

A good friend’s daughter was recently diagnosed with type1 diabetes, and she has been experiencing pain which the doctor associated with an inflamed liver. Is this normal?

From: DTeam Staff

Liver enlargement at the onset of clinical diabetes is not unusual and is due to the redistribution of peripheral fat. It disappears as control is established and is not commonly associated with pain. A laboratory liver function profile should be able to exclude any form of hepatitis.
