Question from Buffalo, New York, USA:

Are there any statistics of insulin pump users who have either died or went into comas, etc? And if so, what were the causes?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

I don’t know of any data kept by any center.

Additional comments from Dr. Bill Quick:

The FDA is charged with evaluation of adverse events that occur from medications and medical devices (see Center for Devices and Radiological Health), and the manufacturers are required to submit reports of any adverse events that they hear about (see Reporting Problems with Medical Devices). Therefore, it should be possible through “FOI” (the Freedom of Information Act) to find out what is in the FDA files.
