Question from Canada:

As a parent of two diabetics, I can easily smell if either of my children has ketones from their breath. Can the diabetic taste the ketones?

From: DTeam Staff

No, they can smell them but can’t taste them. Ketones are partly eliminated through the lungs with breathing (as acetoacetone); however, there aren’t selective taste receptors for them in the tongue.
