Question from New Jersey, USA:

Could you possibly give me an estimate of the number of people with type 1 diabetes living in the United States?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are approximately 16 million Americans with diabetes. Type1 diabetes makes up 5-10%, which would mean that there are between 800,000 and 1.6 million Americans with type 1 diabetes. Exact figures are not available as diabetes is not a reportable disease.

For additional information, see: Diabetes Facts and Figures from the American Diabetes Association, and Diabetes Statistics from the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse.
