Question from Glasgow, United Kingdom:

We’re looking at setting up a student support group for students with diabetes in a couple of Universities and colleges here in Scotland. Nothing similar has been done here before. Has anything similar been tried in the United States? Quite often, this work has been left to student support agencies or special needs. We’d like this to be student led, but with staff support. If you are aware of any scheme like this in operation, can you give some pointers.

There is an organization in your area where people with diabetes might go to get information. It could help you with get the word out for your group and perhaps offer you some guidance and guest speakers. It is the International Diabetes Federation. In addition, you should contact the University Health Services and see whether you can get the nurses involved for referrals and other resources.
