Gestational Diabetes

Question from Queensland, Australia:

I am 22 and 35 weeks pregnant. I had a glucose test 2 weeks ago which came back at 186mg/dl but the glucose tolerance test came back normal. I have an excessive urge to drink and sleep; also diabetes runs in my family. I was wondering if I should have a second GTT?

There is data to suggest that women who have an abnormal 1 hour glucose screen followed by a normal 3 hour test are still at increased risk of developing gestational diabetes. It just happens later in the pregnancy. Therefore, given that your 1 hour test was high, I would suggest repeating the 3 hour test around 32-34 weeks of pregnancy.
