Question from Bogota, Colombia:

I found an article in a local newspaper that said a man in Peking had cured himself of diabetes by eating ants. Is this possible? What kind of ants should a lady of 53 eat?

How we all wish this were actually true! To wipe out this disease and rid the world of all those little pests at the same time! Now that would be wonderful. Unfortunately, there is no known food, supplement or insect that has been proven to cure diabetes when eaten. There are some things, however, that when eaten to the exclusion of regular foods may result in a big temporary drop in glucose. This is not a cure, as such, because the blood sugar will once again rise when more normal foods are eaten. I had a patient last year who swore his diabetes had been cured by eating dill pickles — and, sure enough, when he ate only dill pickles for a few days, his blood sugars returned to normal. Dill pickles like ants contain little or no carbohydrate and so do not produce blood sugar, when digested. Unfortunately, people cannot be healthy eating only ants or dill pickles.

The desire to find a cure for diabetes is universal and understandable, but so far, the search has not been successful. Until that wonderful day, your best action is to learn how to manage more normal foods, become more physically active, and work with your health care providers to get on the right medicines.

Yo no pienso que la informacion es corecta. Salva su dinero, no compre las hormigas y solamente come las hormigas si le gusta el sabor. No puede curar diabetes con hormigas!
