I have heard about the benefits of ACE inhibitors, but had the impression that you would not give them to children, and in your poll discussion, children aren’t mentioned. What have you heard about when kids should go on these drugs?

In Italy, the current opinion is to give children (not younger than six or seven) low doses of an ACE inhibitor when microalbumin begins to be persistent.

Persistent and progressive albuminuria has been found to be improved by the use of ACE inhibitors. Progression to overt nephropathy may be delayed but their place in protecting long-term renal function in young people has not yet been established. There is early evidence that even without hypertension, ACE inhibitors should be considered when persistent microalbuminuria has been confirmed.
The introduction of ACE inhibitors must be combined with monitoring of renal function.
