Inhaled Insulin, Insulin

advertisement
Question from Chicago, Illinois, USA:

I have type 1 diabetes. Is there a pill I can take by mouth, instead of taking insulin?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

If you have type 1 diabetes you are committed to insulin in some form. So far no pill is available and the nearest workable approach may be an aerosol in which insulin has been modified so that it is absorbed with about 20% efficiency through the buccal mucosa or lungs See Oralin and The Diabetes Monitor: Inhaled Insulin. These products are not yet approved for general use.
