Question from :

I have type 2 diabetes and haven’t been taking my insulin, but I’ve been feeling okay. What’ s going on? Did it go into remission?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

You don’t mention what your blood sugars are without the insulin, but you still have type2 diabetes, even if your your blood sugars are in normal range at all times. Is this what’s happened? If they are, it is more likely that you are now able to control your diabetes without insulin at the present time. Type 2 diabetes can be very silent, and your body will not warn you when blood sugars are above normal. Without testing your blood sugar, you really don’t know where you stand.

I’m also curious as to why you decided to stop your insulin. Were you having problems? If so, l hope you will discuss this with your physician. It’s very possible that you will need to resume taking it. You might also discuss all of the other treatment options available for treating type 2 diabetes. If you don’t have a diabetes educator to help you, I encourage you to ask your doctor, or call 1-800-TEAM UP 4 to get a list for your area. You should never have to manage diabetes alone or without up-to-date information.
