Insulin, Weight and Weight Loss

advertisement
Question from California, USA:

I recently saw a movie based on a true story called “Reversal of Fortune” in which a woman was trying to lose weight by taking insulin injections. I never heard of such a thing. Can insulin actually cause you to gain or lose weight? Does it just depend upon the food you eat?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Weight gain is dependent on a combination of factors:

amount of food eaten,
insulin dose (you can’t gain weight unless you have enough insulin to metabolize the food),
level of exercise, and
the person’s individual rate of metabolism (breaking down and utilizing food).
