Question from Providence, Rhode Island, USA:

If a child already has a 504 in place, does a new/updated version need to be sent each new school year if his treatment is exactly the same?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

It is best practice to update the 504 Plan each year, which requires a reconvening of the 504 team. Even though the contents may not change and there may be no items that require re-negotiating, staff often change and also it is a good opportunity to re-educate and to refresh. Most schools will include an effective date in a 504 plan which is usually the first day of school through the last day of school.
