Gestational Diabetes

Question from New Jersey, USA:
I’m 39 years old, 17 weeks pregnant with my first child, and my recent urine glucose level was was 1+. Should I have a blood test now for gestational diabetes or should I for the routine test during my 26th week? Should I watch my diet also?

Pregnant women frequently have glucose in their urine. This does not automatically mean you have diabetes. If there is a strong family history, then I would recommend early testing. Otherwise, wait until 24 weeks at the earliest.
