Question from Ames, Iowa, USA:

Is the Down syndrome happening only in the morning or can this happen also around lunch time, in the afternoon or any time of the day?

Answer:

I believe you mean the Dawn Phenomenon. As we awaken, we need energy. Cortisol goes up to give the energy and, with it, glucose usually rises, too. With diabetes, if the insulin isn’t matched, the glucose can really go up.

After a low, we sometimes see a high because of the food eaten, but it isn’t the dawn phenomenon.
