Question from Texas, USA:

Last night when she gave her insulin shot, my mother hit a vein in her thigh and still has a bump on the skin.

Answer:

From: George Grunberger, MD, FACP, MACE

Though you did not indicate what size (gauge, length) needle that was used, it is quite difficult to get into a thigh vein with today’s needles. Also, it was not clear much insulin was being administered. Nevertheless, it will be absorbed and should cause no lasting problems.
