Diagnosis and Symptoms

Question from Lyndhurst, New Jersey, USA:

My 13 year old son just had his first a1c test done. He has IDDM type 1. Can you explain some of the results:

A1C 5.8
fructosamine 279
PBG 0.82
albumin 4.8
TSH 1.5
T4, free
non-dialysis 0.92

Are these results good in all areas? I don’t understand too much since he is newly diagnosed.

This looks like new diabetes. The A1c reflects very good control, and okay for new; I wouldn’t usually look for it to stay this low. The thyroid studies (T4 and TSH) also are okay. I don’t understand the other tests.
