Question from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada:

My 17 year old friend has type 1 diabetes. He smokes marijuana. I hear from several friends that it can lead to blindness. Is this true?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

I have never heard that marijuana can cause blindness, nor could I find a report of this in the medical literature. So, the information may have been intended to discourage. I suppose constant use would work against meticulous control of blood sugars and thus hasten eye complications from diabetes.
