My 5 year old daughter has had Type 1 for 3 years. Recently she had routine blood work drawn which demonstrated that her TSH level was extremely elevated while her T4 and T3 levels were still within the normal range. Suspecting that she is developing hypothyroidism, we have started her on Synthroid [a brand of thyroid hormone replacement therapy].

What is the incidence of thyroid dysfunction in young children with Type 1 diabetes and what are some other endocrine abnormalities that we should watch out for, and their incidences?
