Question from Talladega, Alabama, USA:

My son is 21 years old and has had type 1 diabetes since he was 16 years old. He is interested in pursuing a career in diabetes research or other diabetes related field, possibly even endocrinology. He is currently attending a junior college for an Associates of Science Computer degree. Do you have any advice for him in pursuing a career in diabetes research or other diabetes related fields?

The ADA puts out a beautiful magazine called Forefront with some samples of the research they are funding with profiles of the researchers. You should go to the ADA web site and choose Diabetes Research. You can download current and back issues of the publication. You might even want to contact a researcher or two and even consider a summer internship.
