Question from Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA:
My four year old, who has type 1 diabetes, has had ear and strep infections. He was given Albuterol and Augmentin. What effect do they have on his insulin?
Answer:

The infection has the largest effect in raising glucose. Albuterol might have some glucose raising effect, the Augmentin very little, save for the sugar in the teaspoon. The need is to clear the infection. That will help the blood glucose the most.
