Question from India:

My husband, age 44, weight 100 kilograms, has impaired glucose tolerance or borderline diabetes. How can we know that his beta cells are perfectly normal or have been damaged? Is there any test?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

The blood test for C-peptide would be useful to determine if he has beta cell function. If this is low, then the beta cells are diminished in their ability to produce insulin. I would discuss this with your physician.
