Question from Ashland, Mississippi, USA:

My five-year-old son, who has type 1 diabetes, just started kindergarten yesterday at a private Christian school. Are there any laws to cover him since he attends a private Christian school? I want to make sure we have all our bases covered.

Religious operated schools have no legal obligations under Section 504 or the Americans with Disabilities Act unless the school is the recipient of federal funds. For more information, see the ADA ‘s web page on School Discrimination and/or call the American Diabetes Association at 1-800-DIABETES.
