Diagnosis and Symptoms, Other

Question from Indio, California, USA:

I have a six year old son who is chronically sick. He is always thirsty, urinates a lot, complains of being tired and that his legs ache. I cannot get his pediatrician to check his blood sugar levels. They continue to tell me that because he is a little chunky, he is not at risk for diabetes. Should I push for the testing?

Answer:

Yes, you should clearly explain your concerns to your pediatrician. The testing for diabetes is relatively simple and, likely, should be done.
