Our son had pancreatic surgery for a suspected insulinoma. The surgeon located an insulinoma in the tail of the pancreas with ultrasound and removed about half of the pancreas. Could you tell me why pathology was unable to identify an insulinoma in the surgically removed part?

Go back and talk to the surgeons and perhaps also to the pathologists. Very minute insulinomas are sometimes difficult to find.
