Research: Causes and Prevention
Question from Redlands, California, USA:
My now six year old daughter was diagnosed with diabetes 15 months ago, and her doctors aren’t sure of the type because the only blood test that came back positive was GAD. She is on relatively small amounts of insulin and Glucophage [metformin]. She was not overweight at diagnosis, and is white. Some days she needs more insulin, and others hardly any at all.
We vacated our home within six weeks of her diagnosis, because it had contained dangerous mold (Stachybotrus Chartarum and Aspergillis) for years.. We knew our house had water intrusion for years, and we are in a lawsuit with the developer. We believe the ongoing exposure to the microtoxins triggered the onset of the diabetes. Do you have any data to help support our theory? My blood test results were positive to the exposure, and we are waiting the results of my daughter’s.
Answer:
I can find no evidence that either of these two moulds might have triggered any form of diabetes in a child, and I think that it would be very difficult indeed to establish such a link in court.
