What are the common tests carried out to determine whether a person has diabetes? Are there non-invasive methods as well as invasive?

The only definitive test is a blood glucose test. Sometimes this has to be done in a standardised way (e.g. after a measured drink of glucose), but this is rarely necessary in childhood. All of the other tests, antibody tests, hemoglobin A1c etc., are about refining the information. Apart from screening urine with a dipstick test, all other investigations are invasive, that is, require blood.
