Hyperglycemia and DKA
Question from :
Why do people with diabetes get so thirsty? Do they risk becoming easily dehydrated?
The kidneys normally reabsorb nearly all filtered glucose, but, when the blood sugar level exceeds about 180 mg/dl [10 mmol/L], they t can no longer do so and must use ‘free water’ to get the extra glucose into the urine. This in turn can lead to thirst and dehydration.
