My son takes Lantus, NPH and Humalog to avoid a noon shot. He’s having higher blood sugars though. How can we make this work?

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in February 2003, I have been following a low carb diet, which has allowed me to reduce or eliminate my insulin. Is this safe? Do I need to worry about my cholesterol intake?

The Humalog dose I take varies all the time, even for the same food. I guess at the dose, then often do a correction shot. How can I get better control of my diabetes?

At my doctor’s suggestion, I started taking Protophane at night and have been increasing the dosage to try to lower my blood sugars. I saw no lower numbers, so I tried a new vial of insulin and still saw no improvement. Why doesn’t the insulin seem to be working?

Why do people with type 2 taken insulin if they are insulin resistant? Isn’t there too much insulin in the bloodstream?

My sons were having low pre-breakfast blood sugars so we switched their NPH from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Our doctor does not feel they need middle of the night blood sugar checks unless we are changing their NPH doses. Is this okay?
