I have been on Lantus and Humalog for three months, and I still have extreme lows every night about 3:30 am which wake me up. I have tried changing my bedtime snack, and if I decrease my Lantus dosage then the rest of my day does not go well.

My adult daughter is on an insulin pump with Humalog but would like to take a break from the pump and try Lantus with Humalog. How are they calculating the Lantus dosage during transition? How long should pump delivery be halted before starting Lantus? What is the incidence of hypoglycemia with Lantus?

How is Novolog different from Humalog? Clearly it is different from Regular, but why do people report having more stable results using Novolog in the insulin pump than they do using Humalog?

Is there a reason I shouldn’t eat my meal, test afterward and then take the amount of Humalog needed? If I could inject afterward, I’d know the precise dose of Humalog to take and I wouldn’t find myself too low or too high later.

Our son has had trouble with lows at night and waking up high. We have heard of ‘glargine’ the new long lasting insulin, and we wonder how this insulin is working for young boys. How is it best used? How does it give sustained release with no peaks? How hard is it to get used to using in conjunction with Humalog at meals?

Is Lantus safe to use in pregnancy? It seems the benefits of stable blood glucose levels may outweigh the risks associated with using it. Is it category C only because it is such a difficult thing to get something approved for pregnancy? Are there any real data to show there is a risk, or just lack of data?

My 13 year old son has been on the same dosage of Lantus for six weeks with very regular numbers, but recently he had an unexplained episode of prolonged hypoglycemia. Is there any evidence of problems occurring with Lantus so that it becomes concentrated? Do you have any other explanations for this terrifying night?

My six year old started using Lantus six months ago, and the last three vials have caused midmorning highs and lunch time lows. Is it possible that Lantus is peaking 12 hours after injection or her morning Humalog effect is delayed for some reason?

I am a house manager at a substance abuse recovery center. One of my clients has an elevated blood sugar count and his insulin will not bring it down. Before he came here his insulin was left unrefrigerated for two days. If Lantus is left unrefrigerated for two days will it affect the Insulin?

About two months ago, my son switched to a Lantus and Humalog regimen. During the first two weeks, he had very low blood sugar early in the mornings, so our doctor switched the Lantus injection to the morning. Why does the Lantus instruction booklet recommend giving the Lantus shot at bedtime?
