Amanda Wills
I was diagnosed with T1 at the age of 13. There have been many struggles throughout the 25 years since my diagnosis. Times of DKA, a seizure from dropping too low, and even a coma 9 years ago that lasted over a week. The coma was brought on from DKA and was one of the scariest times of my life. I was given a 5% chance of survival but with the help of the amazing medical staff I was able to pull through and have an extraordinarily quick recovery. That experience really taught me to take better care of myself and get my diabetes in check. I got myself back on insurance immediately and since then I have made the decision to start on an insulin pump and then eventually a CGM as well. These tools have helped tremendously and made life with T1 much easier. I have also had two children and was able to keep my blood sugar in great control throughout. Every day with T1 can be a different experience, but with the knowledge and experience I now have, as well as medical staff, podcasts, and support from family and friends, I know I can handle it.
