Although my pancreas failed 50 years ago, I have accomplished more than I expected. I am mother to two beautiful and healthy children who have blessed me with three healthy grandchildren. I attended college, achieved executive careers in corporate America and then transferred my skills to Federal Government for a civil service career. I retired as Director with US Customs and Border Protection, Office of Trade. I traveled internationally for both careers, yes, while wearing my insulin pump and trying to count carbs in foreign countries. My journey includes a dual journey, recently accomplished a “cancer journey.” My T1D stayed in check with A1C between 5.9 and 6.3 through all the chemotherapy rounds. I have to contribute these excellent results to strong family support, an excellent medical care team, the advancement of diabetic technology (tools) and prayer. I have to wonder what my next journey will be.
