It has been a long journey, one filled with opportunities as well as challenges. Clearly, I know that many of my skills and virtues have been shaped by my journey with diabetes. One of these is being disciplined and always analyzing contexts to make informed decisions. I wouldn’t have chosen to learn these lessons through a diagnosis, but having lived it, this has positively marked my life. Being capable of having a healthy pregnancy and being mother is also a milestone in my diabetes life.
I still remember testing glucose in urine, waiting two and a half minutes with a glucometer, the long needles, the first slow and fast insulins, and the fixed doses without counting carbs. I simply feel grateful for the medical and technological advancements that have been made for diabetes, always dreaming of a cure.
