I was diagnosed in my late 20s and it came as a huge shock to me. I didn’t know anything about this disease and I was terrified of needles. I’ll never forget that it took me two hours to give myself my first injection and I was crying the entire time. The horrifying part is that I fell pregnant four months later so here I was trying to navigate all of this and now putting my body and my unborn baby at even more of a risk!

With help from a team of medical professionals, I successfully lowered my A1C down to a 6.2 within no time at all and went on to have an amazing baby boy.

This disease is no joke and it consumes my thoughts every waking moment but it does become second nature. Something I’ve learned is that I can do everything that folks without T1D can do. It may take more work on my part but that just goes to show how strong and resilient us T1D people are.

We are warriors!
