Emma

My husband was diagnosed with “type 2 diabetes” in November of 2010. In September of 2011 Emma was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It was while she was in the hospital that a caring pediatric endocrinologist took the time to ask a few questions about my husband’s diabetes and told us he was confident that his diabetes was not type 2, but really type 1 – but that we should see an endocrinologist. We did, and sure enough, his GAD was positive and c-peptide less than 0.1. While we weren’t lucky Emma was diagnosed, there were blessings within the diagnosis. Without organizations like CWD that support families living with diabetes, diabetes can be a very lonely place. It took many months for me (the one without diabetes) to come to grips with it and I don’t live with the disease! It took us being around people who lived just like we did. Thankful for organizations like yours that provide both education and support for families living with type 1 diabetes. Thanks for all you do.
