It is very easy to view type 1 diabetes as an energy draining illness that consumes a majority of my life. While it poses challenges, it has molded me into a resilient and compassionate person and has allowed me to make my achievements more meaningful. Completing four years playing collegiate lacrosse, being inducted to Mathematics Honors society Pi Mu Epsilon, and starting my job at Crum & Forster Insurance is more impressive to say when I have been managing type 1 diabetes for 19 years as well. As Susan Colasanti said, “Even in a bad situation, there’s always a positive side. Even if you can’t see it yet.”
