Living with T1D day in and day out is something that is too often not celebrated. It is your life, it’s what needs to be done. I think it’s truly important to stop and appreciate what a triumph it is to keep going and not just live with diabetes, but also thrive with it. It can be a struggle, but I feel like it makes us so much stronger. I have been through many ups and just as many, if not more, downs with my own journey. But I am truly grateful for every day and can’t believe it’s been over 25 years. On days when it feels extra hard, I think these types of awards and celebrations remind us that we can (and have) gotten through it.
