Jillian Sjostrom
I have been living with type 1 diabetes for over 28 years. Growing up I spent many years attend Camp Midicha where my passion of meeting, interacting, and helping other T1Ds developed. After graduating in 2013 with a degree in psychology, I soon began working in pediatric prevention and diabetes research. I have been working in diabetes behavioral research for over 10 years through Wayne State University School of Medicine department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences. I have worked on numerous NIH funded grants developing interventions to improve stress management among older adolescents & young adults with type 1 diabetes. I worked on National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases grants to test the use of an e-health intervention to promote positive parenting among parents of children with type 1 diabetes and on adapting Multisystemic Therapy (MST) to treat urban, primarily minority youth with type 1 diabetes and chronically poor metabolic control. I have presented research posters at the 82nd American Diabetes Association (ADA) Scientific Sessions in New Orleans and ISPAD 2024 in Portugal. As a closed loop pumper, diabetic researcher, and advocate I’m an active member in the type 1 diabetes community and love to meet other T1Ds. Through my years living with T1D, I have participated, spoken, and volunteered at various diabetes and community events.
