Kaeleigh
From her mom, Wendy:
Kaeleigh was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on April 4, 2015 with a blood sugar of 1,844. The doctor at the hospital said it was one of the highest blood sugars he had every seen in his many years of being a doctor. I (mother) was scared to death. They told me upon admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit that Kaeleigh may go into a coma, have seizures, and may not even make it. They would need to bring her blood sugar down to a normal range over a bit of time, not bringing it down to quickly. Thankfully she made it through just fine. No coma or seizures. About a week stay in the hospital and we were back home learning how to take care of her diabetes. After six months of multiple daily injections of insulin Kaeleigh was allowed to get an insulin pump. Then several months after that was approved for a continuous Glucose monitor. Having the insulin pump and cgm definitely made managing her type 1 diabetes easier to manage and put (mom’s) mind more at ease knowing what Kaeleigh’s blood sugar was all the time without having to do finger sticks all the time. We thank God daily for the invention of insulin and the men who created it! It’s been a tough journey but Kaeleigh will continue fighting the fight and hopefully one day there will be a cure for type 1 diabetes! But until then she will continue counting carbs, doing injection site and sensor changes and using insulin!

since 2015
