My mother told the story of taking me to the ER at only a few weeks old. I was severely dehydrated. It turns out my blood sugar was over 2000! I spent several months in the hospital at Stanford University. They told my parents that I would be small and intellectually compromised. I’m 5’9” and I have a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science. I was told growing up that diabetics didn’t have children. I have two beautiful children who are in their 20s. I’ve been on an insulin pump since 1998 and CGM since 2014. While there still isn’t a cure, the technological advancements have been amazing. This photo was taken on my 50th birthday at Disneyland with my family.
