I was diagnosed on Sept 12, 1975. Four days later, Sept 16, I was admitted to the hospital. That was my 16th birthday. I hit the ground running. I was determined that I would be in control of this disease. It would not control me. 50 years later, that’s still the attitude I live by. I’ve been blessed through the years with a supportive family and friends, and wonderful physicians who have helped guide me through this journey. I think the one thing that I’m most thankful for is the advancements in technology through the years. In Aug 2024, I celebrated 30 years of living with an insulin pump. I purposefully choose the word “celebrate” because I do celebrate these milestones. I celebrate the 30 years I’ve been hooked to an insulin pump! I’m also proudly celebrating the 50 years I’ve successfully lived with diabetes. We’ve come so far, and I know the future holds even more advancements in the way we treat this disease.
