I was diagnosed at age four in 1969. We had to boil the reusable needles then. I heard the doctor tell my Mom that a life expectancy for Type 1 diabetics was approximately 35 years. I grew up with fear of turning 35. They did not know I understood what they were saying. I’ve now made it to my 54th year with diabetes! After I realized that I was going to live longer I changed many life choices and also took better care of myself. I now live with an insulin pump and a CGM. My A1c pretty much my whole life was never under 8 however, with an updated insulin pump I can proudly say my A1c is below 7 now! I’ve used Lilly insulin my whole life and I’m grateful for all the research they do for all of us! I celebrate my life by doing as much as I can to enjoy every moment. I even went for a ride in a NASCAR Racing car at Pocono racetrack recently. Enjoy life, don’t let diabetes hold you back!
